Social value statement

Read about our approach to social impact and value.

SocietyWorks is the wholly owned subsidiary of civic technology charity mySociety

Local authorities and other public sector organisations that choose to work with us unlock unique opportunities to play their part in supporting wider civic improvements across the UK, and even internationally.

Together with mySociety we form a purposeful not-for-profit group providing public benefit through the development of open source, digital civic services and research.

SocietyWorks’ profits help to fund the charity’s mission to educate and empower people to engage more actively within society so that together we can build a fairer and safer future.

Our projects actively work towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. For more information about what we do and the impact this has, our strategy document is available to read online.

Our offering to local authorities

As a not-for-profit SME belonging to a charity, what we offer to our public sector clients is first and foremost the opportunity to support unparalleled social impact. Over the last two decades, our work has contributed significantly to increased civic engagement, transparency and accountability in the UK and around the world.

At the local level, we are also able to support our local authority clients with offerings that align with the Social Value Act and meet requirements for tenders.

Harnessing the vast array of skills and specialised knowledge within our team, we are able to cater to a variety of audiences and support local economies through initiatives that include but are not limited to:

  1. 1Career development presentations and workshops for schools, colleges, council departments or community groups supporting NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training);
  2. 2Workshops for schools or other community groups on citizenship and civic engagement, including training and empowerment to use resources and tools that contribute to decision making that impacts citizens at the local level;
  3. 3Mentoring for SMEs on sales, business development, account management, and marketing, including education on the use of climate-friendly policies and technological best practice.

We are committed to providing the highest standard of support to our clients, and will work in partnership with each local authority to ensure that what we deliver is right for the local area.
